Alocious Kalokoh has been remanded in custody following allegations of vehicle theft. He appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown, facing a charge of larceny under Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to court documents, Kalokoh is accused of stealing a RAV 4 Jeep with registration number AFR 635, valued at $15,000 (Le 52,500). The vehicle belongs to Dentonia Sylvia Gladys Johnson, and the alleged theft took place on January 21, 2025, along Wilkinson Road, Freetown.
During the hearing, Kalokoh pleaded not guilty to the charge. A key prosecution witness, Clarise King, testified that on January 24, 2025, she saw Kalokoh driving the stolen vehicle along Campbell Street. She followed him on a motorcycle and tracked the vehicle to the East End of Freetown near a checkpoint, where she notified police officers.
King further stated that officers intervened and escorted both Kalokoh and the vehicle to the Congo Cross Police Station, where an official complaint was filed.
Defense lawyer C. Kamara Esq. applied for bail, arguing that Kalokoh is a responsible family man, a citizen of Sierra Leone, and has a permanent residence. The request was made under Section 79(3) of the Criminal Procedure Act No. 32 of 1965. However, Magistrate Kekura denied the bail request, citing the severity of the charges.
The case has been adjourned to February 11, 2025, for further proceedings.
A responsible family man who steals vehicles? If guilty, he needs to be sent to jail for a very long time. Examples need to be set. Our country is deteriorating fast and these things are becoming all too commonplace, but I guess this is to be expected when the Maada Bio family themselves are drug dealers
