A 32-year-old businesswoman named Aminata Koroma is facing charges of domestic violence against her boyfriend, Mohamed Mustang Sam Kabba, at their residence on 182 Regent Road, Freetown.
She appeared in court following her arrest on May 17, 2024, charged under Section 2(1) of the Domestic Violence Act of 2007.
The charge sheet alleges that Aminata subjected Kabba to ongoing abuse between August 1 and September 7, 2023, while they lived together in Lumley, Freetown. The court was informed that the couple was in a domestic relationship during this period.
Testifying before the court, Detective Police Constable Edward Serintin, attached to the Family Support Unit at the Criminal Investigations Department, detailed the investigation. He reported that on January 10, 2024, the accused came to their office to file a complaint. Following instructions from his superior, Inspector Abubakar Kamara, Serintin stated that a formal statement was taken from her.
Serintin explained that he, along with Detective Inspector Mattia MH, conducted a caution and questioning session with the accused in Krio, recording her responses in English. The statement was later read back to her in Krio, and she admitted its accuracy, voluntarily signing the document, which was presented in court as Exhibit A1–12.
During cross-examination by defense counsel Gavawo, Serintin was questioned on whether the accused had denied the allegations during questioning. He initially stated she did not deny them but later indicated he could not clearly recall. When asked if a search of her residence was conducted, he clarified that he was not the lead investigator and could not confirm.
The court has adjourned the matter to April 14, 2025, for further proceedings.
