Dr Kandeh K. Yumkella, Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on Climate Change, Renewable Energy and Food Security (PI-CREF), on June 6th 2026, served as Special Guest of Honour at the official commissioning and handover ceremony of the Integrated Energy Centre (IEC) in Fogbo Village.

Dr Yumkella, who is also the founder of The Energy Nexus Network (TENN) and Special Envoy for the ECOWAS Integration and Investment Summit, described the project as a landmark investment in clean energy, community development, and economic empowerment.

The Integrated Energy Centre was constructed by The Energy Nexus Network (TENN) in partnership with GOAL Sierra Leone and the Conservation Society Sierra Leone, with funding support from Jersey Overseas Aid (JOA).

The facility will provide access to reliable renewable energy to support entrepreneurship, enhance digital connectivity, promote skills development, and encourage productive use of energy, which is designed to expand opportunities in rural communities

Speaking at the event, Dr Yumkella emphasised the importance of sustainable energy solutions in driving inclusive growth, noting that the IEC serves as a practical model of how renewable energy can transform livelihoods and improve living standards.

The project underscores a shared commitment among partners to advancing sustainable development and fostering economic resilience across Sierra Leone’s rural communities.

Community stakeholders welcomed the initiative, expressing optimism that the centre will open new pathways for business growth, education, and innovation in Fogbo Village.
