Zainab Sheriff Makes Third Court Appearance in Alleged Incitement Case
Zainab Sheriff, leader of the “Wi Duti Lapa” movement, on Wednesday, 4th January, has made her third appearance before Principal Magistrate Brima Jah at Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown, in connection with an alleged incitement matter.
The case was adjourned after the defence informed the court that it had only just been served with the prosecution’s file and was not prepared to proceed.
Sheriff is facing charges of incitement contrary to law and threatening language contrary to Section 30(1) of the Public Order Act 1965.
According to police, the alleged offence occurred on Saturday, 31 January 2026, at the Brima Attouga Mini Stadium within the Freetown Judicial District.
Prosecutors allege that Sheriff made these statements and may have incited violence against individuals accused of rigging elections.
Police further alleged that she made remarks suggesting that those accused of election malpractice and allegedly cheating “eight million people” should not go free, statements the prosecution described as capable of encouraging violence.
Family members and supporters gathered around the court premises in an emotional show of solidarity, waiting for proceedings to commence while holding on to hope as the matter was adjourned to a later date.
