A senior official at the National Electoral Commission (NEC) last night insisted that the 2023 Presidential, Parliamentary and Local Council elections will go ahead in accordance with the 1991 Constitution.

According to him, the 2023 elections will take place on a date between April and July 2023.

“There is no intention on our part to postpone or extend the due date of the pending elections…As far as we are concerned we are on course to conduct all the elections in one day between April and July 2023…I cannot at this stage disclose the exact date we have in mind…An official announcement will be made at the appropriate time”, the NEC official said.

Meanwhile, the Constitutional Review Committee had recommended for a fixed date to be set for the conduct of all future Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

The Government of President Julius Maada Bio had accepted this recommendation in a Government White Paper published on Thursday 13th January, 2022.

Senior officials at the National Electoral Commission are looking at recommending the first Saturday of November 2028 as the fixed date for the conduct of Presidential, Parliamentary and Local Council elections in Sierra Leone.

“The 2023 elections will be held on a date between April and July”, the NEC official insisted.
