The Fifty-fifty Group Sierra Leone has shown an utter dismay over the sudden suspension of the Auditor General, Lara Taylor-Pearce and her deputy, Tamba Momoh, on a Press Statement dated the 12th November 2021.

The Fifty-Fifty Group is a Female Oriented Group in Sierra Leone which seeks to increase the level of Female Participation in Political and Public life, to ensure equivalence in the Local Councils, Parliament, Cabinet and other decision-making Institutions of the State and to provide Leadership Training and Literacy Classes for women in the Country.

In the press release, the Group stated that they would like to remind the Government of the Constitutional Provisions that established the Office of the Auditor General and enshrined its independence which safeguards the integrity and impartiality of that Office, adding that Lara Taylor-Pearce has an unblemished record both nationally and internationally, therefore they will condemn any attempt to sully her reputation and integrity.

Fifty-fifty group stated that this action taken by the government negates the positive steps of the recent formulation of the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Policy and the Gender Empowerment bill.

The group urge the government to fully disclose the reasons for her suspension to the general public and take steps to resolve this impasse and reassure the people of Sierra Leone of their continued support towards Gender Parity, Equality and the Independence of State Institutions.
