The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has underscored the need to place integrity, accountability and probity at the heart of the proposed Code of Conduct for Ministers, Deputy Ministers and other political appointees.

Speaking at a consultation workshop organised by the Ministry of Public Administration and Political Affairs (MoPAPA), with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), ACC Deputy Commissioner Augustine Foday Ngobie described the initiative as an important step towards establishing clear ethical standards for individuals entrusted with political and public responsibilities.

Drawing on the ACC’s experience, Ngobie highlighted critical areas including conflict of interest, asset declaration, the registration of gifts, and the responsible use of public resources and state assets.

He stressed that the Code should not merely restrict conduct but should provide a practical framework to guide public officials in the discharge of their responsibilities while strengthening accountability to citizens.

The consultation brought together government officials, public institutions, civil society organisations, the media and other stakeholders to contribute to the development of a practical, credible and workable framework for ethical public leadership in Sierra Leone.
