Air Sierra Leone Explains Why Its Plane Returned to Airport After Flying For Over 10 Minutes
An Air Sierra Leone flight from Freetown to Lagos returned to Murtala Mohammed International Airport today after the crew received a cockpit alert.
The flight, which departed at 14:17, initiated an “air return” at 14:35 as a precautionary safety measure, according to the airline. Air Sierra Leone emphasized that passenger safety was not compromised and that the crew followed standard operating procedures.
The airline’s maintenance team and the NCAA conducted an inspection, which revealed that a sensor had triggered a false alarm. No actual risk or mechanical issue was present.
After receiving full technical clearance, the aircraft resumed its journey to Freetown at 17:55 with all passengers on board.
Air Sierra Leone Head of Media, Communications & Public Relations, Augustine Bona, stated that the airline encourages the public to rely on official communication channels for updates and information, adding, “At Air Sierra Leone, safety is not just a policy – it is our promise.”
