Mayor Aki-Sawyerr Joins APC Leaders at Quranic Recitation for Late Chairman Mansaray
Mayor of Freetown Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr has paid tribute to the late former All People’s Congress (APC) National Chairman, Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray, describing him as a man deeply committed to his family, the APC and Sierra Leone.
The Mayor made the remarks on Sunday, November 1, 2026, during a four-month-and-ten-day Quranic recitation ceremony held in Freetown to mark four months and ten days since Mansaray’s death.
Reflecting on her relationship with the late politician, Aki-Sawyerr said she fondly referred to him as “Uncle Minks” and recalled his passion for his immediate and extended family, the APC and the country.
She said the best way to honour his legacy would be for members of the APC to remain united, win the 2028 general elections and pursue transformational development in Sierra Leone.
Aki-Sawyerr also extended her condolences to Mansaray’s wife and children, assuring them of her personal commitment to efforts aimed at achieving the unity and political objectives he valued.
The ceremony was attended by former President Ernest Bai Koroma, former First Lady Sia Koroma, former Vice President Alhaji Sam-Sumana, former APC National Chairman Alhaji Yansaneh and other senior party stakeholders and supporters.
Mansaray served as National Chairman of the APC and remained a prominent figure in the party until his death. The Quranic recitation brought together family members, political associates and party supporters to remember his life and legacy.
