Freetown City Mayor, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr has yesterday the 12th September, 2022 Joined FreetownTheTreeTown Monitoring visit at Tokeh Dam in the east end of Sierra Leone’s capital.

Giving account of the said visit, she posted this on social media:

“FreetownTheTreeTown is an FCC commitment to plant 1 million trees in Freetown and the water catchment areas of the Western Area Rural District. Today I visited the Tokeh Dam with our partners Youths Action for Relentless Development Organization (YARDO-SL) and Ward 388 Councillor Mamodu Dumbuya. We have planted 60,000 trees in this catchment. It was great to see how well the trees are doing and to hear from the committed young people employed as growers! Great job Ahmid Jalloh and the whole YARDO-SL team!

One of the highlights of the visit was hearing about Jariatu Koroma’s personal experience of being a tree grower. She now makes a living from planting and growing trees.

We need real commitment to tackle deforestation! Our water, our food sources, our animal and bird life, our safety are all dependent on saving and growing trees.”
