The General Court Martial of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) is set to deliver its judgment today, Wednesday, 12th February 2025, in the case of The State versus Major Patrick Abu Ordende Sesay alias PAO and 5 Others.

Judge Advocate Mark Ngegba will present his summing-up of the evidence and provide directions to the Court Martial President and Board Members during the session, which begins at 9:00 a.m. The six accused individuals, including Major Sesay, have been on trial since 17th October 2024, facing eight counts of Mutiny, Failure to Suppress Mutiny, and Desertion.

The charges stem from alleged subversive activities against the government in July 2023, following the re-election of President Julius Maada Bio in June 2023. The accused are:

  1. Major Patrick Abu Ordende Sesay alias PAO (1st Accused)
  2. Major Juana Kabbah (2nd Accused)
  3. Major Foday Sumana Kamara (3rd Accused)
  4. Major Ibrahim Abu Bakarr Bangura (4th Accused)
  5. Lieutenant Zainab Amara Suwu (5th Accused)
  6. Corporal Mohamed Koroma (6th Accused)

Following the Judge Advocate’s summing-up, the Court Martial President and Board Members will retire to deliberate on the evidence before returning with their verdict.

This marks the second judgment by the RSLAF’s highest military tribunal, established to try personnel involved in the 2023 subversion and coup attempts. The first judgment was delivered on 9th August 2024 in the case of The State versus Staff Sergeant Alhaji Koroma and 26 Others.

Additionally, the summing-up and verdict for another related case, The State versus Major Bai Sesay and 6 Others, will be delivered on Thursday, 13th February 2025.
