President Dr. Julius Maada Bio has received the 2025 Annual Report of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) from Chief Electoral Commissioner and Chairman, Edmond Alpha, at State House.
Alpha said the report was submitted in line with Section 32(12) of the 1991 Constitution, fulfilling the Commission’s constitutional obligation to report annually to the President. He noted that the report reflects the ECSL’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance, while outlining its activities, achievements, challenges, and financial stewardship in 2025.
He highlighted key achievements, including staff capacity development, construction of regional offices, strengthened internal governance, and the successful conduct of 13 Paramount Chieftaincy elections across six districts. Alpha also noted the smooth leadership transition following the end of Mohamed Kenewui Konneh’s tenure and the ECSL’s ICPS Award for Electoral Conflict Management for its handling of the 2023 general elections.
He thanked the Government for its continued support and reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to strengthening electoral integrity, transparency, and public confidence.
Receiving the report, President Bio commended the ECSL for its professionalism, integrity, and resilience, describing electoral management as a challenging responsibility. He urged the Commission to begin preparations early for future elections, prioritise staff development, efficient electoral administration, and the timely announcement of results.
The President reaffirmed his Government’s continued support for the Commission and its efforts to deliver credible, peaceful, and transparent elections, before formally accepting the 2025 Annual Report.
