President Julius Maada Bio has announced a wave of new appointments to key government ministries, state institutions, and diplomatic posts, according to a public notice issued by State House on 11 August 2026.

The appointments, signed by Secretary to the President Barba B. Fortune, are subject to parliamentary approval where applicable and include changes in finance, foreign affairs, and leadership of several state agencies.

Mr. Karefa A. F. Kargbo has been appointed Minister of Finance, while Mr. Abu M. Kanneh has been named Commissioner General of the National Revenue Authority (NRA). Mr. Kanneh previously served as Customs Chief and has experience in regional cross-border trade and revenue collaboration. Mr. Edmond Nonie has been appointed Deputy Commissioner General II of the NRA.

Mr. Mohamed Rahman Swarray has been appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, while Mrs. Jeneba J. Bangura—who previously served as NRA Commissioner General and represented Sierra Leone at the United Nations Committee of Experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters—has been appointed Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

Dr. Sartie Kenneh has been appointed Chairman of the National Public Health Agency, Dr. Donald Alpha Bash-Taqi has been named Chairman of the Tobacco and Nicotine Control Council, and Prof. Gibril Fadlu-Deen has been appointed Chairman of the Teaching Hospitals Complex Administration Board.

Parliament is expected to review and approve the nominees requiring confirmation, as was the case with a previous round of appointments approved on 5 August 2026.
