The President of Sierra Leone, Julius Maada Bio has announced through his secretary that overseas travels for all his cabinet members have been suspended.

“His Excellency the President has directed the suspension of all official overseas travels by Ministers, Ministers of State, Deputy Ministers and Heads of Department,” a release from State House dated 4 April 2023 indicated.

It read that the suspension will take effect on the 30th of April 2023.

Members of the public reacted that the suspension could be part of the president’s agenda to allow his cabinet to redirect energy to his campaign for a second term.

The West African nation will go to the polls in the multi-tier election this June.
