Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio has addressed the nation following the announcement of 60% of votes cast during the recently concluded elections.
In his address, Bio called for calm and respect for public order laws. The ECSL is the sole constitutional body responsible for managing, tabulating, and announcing election results in the country.
Bio emphasized the importance of maintaining peace during and after the announcement of the final results. He urged citizens to refrain from inciting violence or engaging in any form of provocation.
The President emphasized that peace was essential for the stability and progress of the nation, and he called upon all individuals and groups, regardless of their affiliations, to promote and uphold peace in their communities.
Acknowledging the role of the police and security forces, President Bio urged them to enforce public order laws with restraint and ensure the equal protection of all citizens. He stressed that every citizen’s constitutional rights were equally important and must be respected under all circumstances.
The President reaffirmed his commitment to an inclusive, peaceful, fair, and transparent electoral process.
As Sierra Leone has worked hard to build its democracy from the ashes of war, President Bio expressed the nation’s collective determination to avoid returning to that dark chapter of history.
He urged all citizens to respect the country’s constitution, consolidate its democracy, and patiently await the final results, which will be announced by the ECSL.
In conclusion, President Bio appealed to the nation to maintain a peaceful atmosphere while awaiting the final election results.
