Deputy Information Minister, Bockarie Aziz Bawoh, Urges Responsible Media Practice in Kenema
The Deputy Minister of Information and Civic Education, Bockarie Aziz Bawoh, has urged journalists, bloggers and civil society actors to uphold professionalism and accuracy in their work.
He made the call during an engagement held on Friday at the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) regional office in Kenema as part of the Ministry’s regional outreach programme.
Mr Bawoh updated participants on key national issues, including the ECOWAS mid-year meetings, and addressed public concerns surrounding them. He also spoke on the return of former President Ernest Bai Koroma, stressing the need for peace, unity and respect for the rule of law.
He emphasised the importance of verifying information before publication and disclosed that the Ministry is working with the Independent Media Commission to strengthen regulation of digital media practitioners.
The Deputy Minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to continuous engagement to improve access to credible information and strengthen civic education.
SLAJ Regional Chairman, Philip Koroma, and civil society representative Augustine Sannoh both commended the initiative, describing it as a step towards improving transparency and public awareness.
