The Cabinet of Sierra Leone has approved the formal recognition and institutionalisation of June 23, observed globally as United Nations World Public Service Day, as an annual national commemoration in the country.
The decision will provide a platform to recognise, celebrate, and honour the dedication, professionalism, and contributions of Sierra Leone’s public servants towards national development and the delivery of quality services to citizens.
Cabinet has also approved the Ministry of Public Administration and Political Affairs as the lead coordinating institution responsible for planning and organising the annual observance. The Ministry will work in collaboration with relevant Ministries, Departments, Agencies, and development partners to ensure the commemoration meets national and international standards.
During the engagement, Cabinet commended President Julius Maada Bio, described as the Chief Public Servant, for his leadership, commitment, and support towards public service reforms, which contributed to the achievement of this milestone.
Cabinet further extended appreciation to public servants across Sierra Leone for their dedication and professionalism, while reaffirming the government’s commitment to building a modern, efficient, accountable, and citizen-centred public service.
