Kasho Holland Cole, chairman of Western Area Rural District Council (WARDC) has stated that he and his deputy and all councilors of WARDC will not adhere to the government’s order of dissolving all Local councils on the 1st of March 2023.

He stated that such a decision from the government is a disrespect to them, illegal, and undermines their powers as Mayors and chairpersons, adding that it will allow their chief administrators to start disregarding their authority.

He also said the reasons given by the government for dissolving these councils including efficiency sake and allowing time for campaigns are flimsy, nothing that the official campaign period is yet to commence which is not the Ministry’s duty to arrange campaign plans for them.

This statement from the chairman of WARDC came after the government through the ministry of Local Government issued a notice on the 8th of February 2023, asking all Mayors, District Chairpersons, and Councilors to step aside with effect 1st March 2023, referring to section 137 of the Local Government Act of 2022.
