President Bio was in Kambia District over the weekend where he launched a multi-million United States Dollar World Bank Project which will be implemented by the National Commission for Social Action (NACSA) and other stakeholders across the country.

While in Kambia District, President Bio took part in several other official activities and also held meetings with some key political stakeholders in the district including the veteran politician and former National Chairman of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Chief Alhaji Sumano Kapen.

Speaking to local media lately, a close confidant and relative of Sumano Kapen, Ramatu Bangura disclosed that some members of the SLPP in that part of the country have planned to organized an SLPP stakeholders’ meeting between President Bio and some senior members of the party including Chief Sumano Kapen and other aggrieved SLPP members in that part of the country. She noted that during the planned meeting, the veteran politician Chief Sumano Kapen, who quit the SLPP in 2017 to join the All People’s Congress (APC) under the then leadership of Ex-President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma is expected to rejoin the SLPP.

According to Ramatu Bangura, the veteran politician has decided to rejoin his previous political party to support the incumbent president’s re-election bid in the forthcoming June 24th 2023 elections.

She noted that news about the veteran politician rejoining the SLPP broke out during last week’s presidential tour of Bo District where other veteran politicians like former Vice President Victor Bockarie Foh and former APC Minister and current Minister of the North-West Region, who also doubles as Presidential Spokesman, Alpha Kanu declared their support for President Bio’s reelection bid in the 2023 presidential election.

She also noted that the rejoining of Chief Sumano Kapen to the SLPP will give more chances to the ruling party ahead of the forthcoming general elections, adding that Kambia District is considered to be one of the strongholds of the APC.
