A team from the Chinese Embassy, headed by the Ag Ambassador Li Xiaoyong has on Tuesday, 12th July, 2022 donated media gadgets to the Media Wing of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP).

Handing over the items, the Ag Chinese Ambassador Li Xiaoyong disclosed that following a request by the Inspector General of Police, Ambrose Michael Sovula to help capacity the media unit of the SLP, the Embassy forwarded his request to the Foreign Affair Ministry in China and was approved.

The items he said were then sent from China to be delivered to the SLP and that the meeting marks the handing over of the items.

China and Sierra Leone he went on to say are true friends with outstanding corporation for a win-win and therefore assured the police of their utmost support when the need arises.

In his response, IG Sovula appreciated the Chinese Embassy for honoring his request in order to make the media unit of the force more effective.

He also pleaded with the Chinese Embassy to consider training for personnel, infrastructural development and the Police Wives Association which he said was offering vocational training courses for wives of officers.

He informed the team that the SLP has already established a desk at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters task to look into matters that involve Chinese nationals.

Sierra Leone he said was secure and peaceful and is conducive for investment but warned against illegal business that will deprive government from the much needed tax.

He encouraged Chinese nationals to be their brothers’ keeper and desist from backstabbing each other in business line.

He concluded by assuring that the items donated would be use judiciously. The items donated include Video Cameras, Power Banks and Digital Recorder.
