The Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion (ICPNC) has presented its 2025 Annual Report and 2026–2030 Strategic Plan to President Julius Maada Bio, reaffirming its commitment to promoting peace, dialogue, and national cohesion in Sierra Leone.
Presenting the documents, ICPNC Executive Secretary Madam Hawa Samai thanked President Bio for establishing the Commission and providing support that has enabled it to carry out its mandate. She said the Commission’s five years of work have focused on dialogue and mediation to resolve conflicts, build trust, and strengthen unity among citizens.
Samai highlighted the Commission’s contribution to building public confidence through dialogue, including its role in the National Unity Agreement. She also cited Sierra Leone’s renewed eligibility for five more years of support from the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund as recognition of the country’s efforts in peaceful conflict resolution.
She cautioned that peace must not be taken for granted, stressing the need for continuous collective efforts to protect and strengthen national cohesion.
Receiving the reports, President Bio commended the ICPNC Board, management, and staff for fulfilling their statutory responsibilities, describing peace and national cohesion as essential foundations for national development.
The President noted that the establishment of the Commission was a key recommendation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Report and described it as an important step towards consolidating peace and democratic governance.
He urged the Commission to continue promoting dialogue, reconciliation, and unity, while reaffirming his government’s support for efforts aimed at safeguarding peace and advancing inclusive development across Sierra Leone.
