The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Ibrahim Tawa Conteh, has clarified that President Julius Maada Bio is not a member of the Ebema Gbi, a grassroots affiliate movement within the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party.

Speaking in an interview on Africa Young Voices Television, Honourable Conteh explained that the Ebema Gbi is a political support movement within the SLPP, but not a formal body that includes the President as a member.

He stated that President Bio remains the President of Sierra Leone and leader of the SLPP, and should not be associated with membership of internal party sub-groups.

According to him, the Ebema Gbi is a people-driven movement within the SLPP aimed at mobilising grassroots support and promoting the achievements of the party to its members and delegates.

He further explained that the movement seeks to ensure political engagement at the grassroots level and to prevent apathy within the party base by actively communicating government policies, achievements, and ongoing development plans.

Honourable Conteh added that the group also works to counter misinformation and strengthen internal party cohesion by keeping members informed about the government’s performance and future plans.

The clarification comes amid growing public discussion about the structure and role of political support groups within the ruling SLPP.
