Thirty-five out of 36 Councillors present yesterday at a council meeting signed the “removal impeachment letter” of the Deputy Mayor of the Freetown City Council (FCC), Osman Tolo Koroma, of Ward 404 in Constituency 114 in the Western Area Urban.

Some of the Councillors, who spoke to The Nationalist newspaper after the impeachment proceedings, said that they decided to remove Osman Tolo Koroma because they believed he was undermining Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyer.

They also accused him of working in concert with the Chief Administrator (CA) to stall the progressive activities of the council. Others accused him of sabotaging the All People’s Congress (APC) by engaging in “anti-party activities”.

A former staff of the Freetown City Council also alleged that the deputy Mayor falsified documents which was given to one Baba Dumbuya in August 2021 but it was backdated 12th June 2014, a period when he was a Councilor under the era of the former Mayor Sam Frankly Bababode Gibson.

“We have sent our impeachment letter to the Minister of Local Government to enforce our legal process in order to redeem the FCC from the Deputy Mayor who is an enemy of the city”, one Councillor told this press.
