The Public Relations Officer of the Sierra Leone Dental Association ( SLMDA) Dr. Peter Market Jajua ,has on 1st August, 2022 blamed the Ministry of Health and Sanitation and the Ministry of Finance for their sit down which commenced on Monday , 1st August , 2022 in the country .

The result of the strike action on Monday , according to their Press release issued was because of the correspondence presented through the correspondence Presented through the ministry of finance were “Not True.”

Dr Jajua stated that there are other Lacunae ( Gaps) with ambiguities for many unanswered questions and concerns which they are pondering on regarding their fuel allocations and medical allowance replacement.

He further added on Monday during the first day of thes strike that their demands rest on two key pillars first the recent reduction of the Covid allowance from their monthly take home salary and the issue on the weekly 45 Litres of fuel which is statutory .’ Because they removed the increment of allowances without our consultation or agreement, we .see it as very disrespect able on the side of us. We need our fuel allocation Starting today 1st August , 2022.

We gave 21 and above days but ( our demands) fell on deaf ears Dr Jajua affirmed The Public Relations Officers SLMDA maintained that the MDA Executive of other allied health professionals.

(Nurses and Pharmacists) were Thursday 28thh July, 2022 summoned to an emergency meeting by the Honourable Minister of Health and Sanitation.

He added that in the meeting held, a document from the Ministry of Finance , signed by the Financial Secretary , was presented , to the Various representatives of the different Associations.

” Starting from today no Doctor will attend to patients except for Nurse  who will look after  patients.

The effect of our medical  allowances cuts across all the board. Everybody is affected in our Strike action undertaken  in the country .We want tour demands to be be solved once  and for all. We don’t want to come  back after several months to request of the Ministry  of for our  previous demands again. If our  demands are met , we will go  to work  Starting tod or after now”
