After he allegedly robbed and wounded a street beggar who is also disabled, Magistrate Santigie Bangura who presides over the Pademba Road Court No.1 has remanded Haroun Conteh who was charged in connection with the offence.

The accused made his first appearance in court facing there count charges of wounding with intent contrary to section 18 of the offences Against the Persons Act 1896, Wounding and assault accasioning actual bodily harm.

Police alleged that the accused Haroun Conteh alias Wannie on Monday 5th September 2022 along Lumley Beach Road Aberdeen in Freetown, Wounded Moses Kamara with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Police further alleged that the accused on the same date maliciously wounded and assaulted the complainant in a manner thereby occasioning him actual bodily harm. The accused persons who was not represented by a lawyer did not take a plea after the charges were read and explained to him.

Led in evidence by Police Constable 15096 Sesay M. the complainant, Moses Kamara recalled that on Monday 5th September was around Mamz Beach Bar and Restaurant Begging from people for his survival when the unfortunate incident occurred.

“I was at the said place when a certain white man came and asked me to avoid begging on the street, based on that, he gave me seven hundred United States dollars I placed it in my handbag with my techno Spark 7 phone. Before long, the accused Person came from nowhere and slapped me on my Jaw.” he revealed.

The witness told the court that he wanted to retaliate but those that were present advised him not to do so.

“I was about to go home when the accused came for the second time and took off one of my sticks and used it to hit me on my neck.” he told the court.

The witness further that the accused took his handbag which contained his Techkno Spark Phone, Seven hundred dollars and stabbed him on his back with a broken bottle.

Kamara told the court that he immediately ran to the police station and made a report, adding that he was issued a medical request for treatment.

Kamara added that the accused was later arrested and brought to the station where he also made a statement. Police Prosecutor informed the court that the accused was later arrested and brought to the station. He will call other witnesses to testify against the accused on the next adjourned date.

After his testimony, Magistrate Bangura remanded the accused and he adjourned the matter to the 16th of September 2022.
