A high powered delegation from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is set to touch down in Sierra Leone today.

Comprising eminent leaders such as President Macky Sall of Senegal, President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana, ECOWAS Commission President Omar Touray, and ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security Abdel Fatau-Musah, the high-powered mission aims to engage in vital discussions and diplomatic engagements within Sierra Leone.

The visit is expected to center around two crucial issues: the recent failed coup attempt in Sierra Leone and discussions pertaining to the country’s pivotal role in regional peacekeeping efforts. Sierra Leone is set to emerge as the focal point for these endeavors, with the imminent launch of the ECOWAS Stabilisation Force headquarters scheduled for January 2024.

As the delegation arrives, expectations are high for productive deliberations, reflecting ECOWAS’s commitment to regional peace, stability, and development.
