ECSL Begins Regional Validation of 2025-2029 Strategic Plan in Kenema
Alusine Ahmed Kargbo The Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) has commenced a regional stakeholders’ validation meeting in Kenema as part of consultations on its 2025-2029 Strategic Plan, aimed at strengthening electoral transparency and participation.
The meeting, held on Monday, 28 September 2026, brings together electoral stakeholders from the Eastern Region, including representatives of political parties, civil society organisations, the media, traditional and religious leaders, security institutions, and other partners in the electoral process. The engagement is intended to gather input to improve and refine the Commission’s strategic direction over the next five years.
Addressing participants, Chief Electoral Commissioner and Chairman of ECSL, Edmond Sylvester Alpha, underscored that public confidence in elections is built progressively through transparency, effective communication, accountability, and sustained stakeholder engagement throughout the electoral cycle. He stressed the need for continuous public education on electoral laws, procedures, and institutional responsibilities to ensure informed participation.
Chairman Alpha further highlighted the importance of collaboration among all stakeholders in strengthening electoral administration and safeguarding the integrity of the democratic process. He noted that inclusive engagement helps to enhance trust and promote wider participation in elections.
The Kenema session forms part of a broader nationwide consultation process on the ECSL 2025–2029 Strategic Plan. It provides stakeholders with the opportunity to review the Commission’s priorities, identify gaps, and make recommendations to support effective implementation.
Under the theme “Strengthening Electoral Transparency and Participation,” the Commission says the consultations are designed to promote dialogue, consensus-building, and inclusivity in shaping electoral reforms and institutional strengthening.
