The Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) and the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) are representing Sierra Leone at the 7th General Assembly of the Association of World Election Bodies (A-WEB) in Manila, the Philippines.

The international gathering, organised by the A-WEB Secretariat in collaboration with the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) of the Philippines, is taking place from October 12 to 17, 2026. It brings together electoral institutions from across the world to strengthen cooperation, share experiences and promote democratic electoral practices.

Sierra Leone’s delegation comprises Emmanuel Koivaya Amara, Chairman of the PPRC; Alex Pat-Labib Saffa, Electoral Commissioner for the Eastern Region at the ECSL; and Olushogo Abraham David, Executive Secretary of the PPRC.

The delegation joins representatives from A-WEB’s 120 member Election Management Bodies (EMBs) across 111 countries, highlighting the organisation’s global reach and commitment to international electoral cooperation.

The week-long programme features the A-WEB Executive Board Meeting and General Assembly, with discussions focusing on institutional governance, knowledge exchange, strategic partnerships, electoral integrity, capacity development, information integrity, and public trust and institutional visibility.

Participants are expected to deliberate on strengthening A-WEB’s governance framework, promoting closer cooperation among member electoral bodies, and sharing innovations and best practices in election administration. The programme also seeks to deepen partnerships with international stakeholders involved in elections and democratic governance.

Other key areas of engagement include expanding professional training and institutional capacity-building opportunities, strengthening media engagement and public outreach to address malinformation, and enhancing A-WEB’s institutional credibility, global visibility and public engagement.

The ECSL’s participation underscores the Commission’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships, promoting institutional learning and adopting relevant global best practices to support credible, transparent, inclusive and peaceful elections in Sierra Leone.

Through sustained engagement with regional and international electoral institutions, the Commission continues to focus on reinforcing public trust and strengthening democratic governance in the country.
