In the announcement of the election results for the Paramount Chief Member of Parliament (PCMP) bye-election, the Chief Electoral Commissioner of the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL), Mohamed Konneh conferred upon by Sections 33, 72, and 74 (1) (a) of the Constitution of Sierra Leone 1991, (Act No. 6 of 1991); and pursuant to Section 62 and 63(b) of the Public Elections Act, 2022 (Act No. 17 of 2022) publish the following Nominations for Paramount Chief Members of Parliament bye-elections that were held on Wednesday 20th March -Thursday 21t March 2024 in the Eastern, Kenema District, and Southern, Pujehun District.
In his announcement, the Chief Electoral Officer highlighted the close of the Candidate nomination for Paramount Chief Member of Parliament by-election in Pujehun district, stating one candidate in the person of P.C. Saffa Moyna Tamu of Makpele Chiefdom went through the process successfully for PCMP bye-election in Kenema District, two candidates successfully went through the nomination process. He thereafter stated that one of the candidates withdrew his candidature which resulted in only one candidate remaining for the polls, in the person of P.C. Alameen Kanneh of Koya Chiefdom. Therefore, according to the Constitution of Sierra Leone 1991 of Sections 33, 72, and 74(1)(a) (Act No. 6 of 1991), and pursuant to Sections 68 of the Public Elections Act, 2022 (Act No. 17 of 2022) declared the following candidates who have returned uncontested, duly elected Paramount Chief Members of Parliament for their respective Districts.
For Koya Chiefdom, Eastern Region, Kenema District, PC Alameen Janneh was elected uncontested, and for Makpere, Southern Region, Pujehun District PC Saffa Moyna Taimu was elected uncontested.
At the end of the announcement, the Chief Electoral Commissioner wished the elected Paramount Chief Members of Parliament a
successful tenure of office.
