The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) has informed the public that investigations are ongoing into a major fault affecting electricity supply from the newly commissioned 10MWp RESPITE Solar Power Plant in Lungi.

Following its commissioning, the solar plant successfully supplied electricity to Lungi Township for approximately three days before supply was interrupted.

According to EDSA, the interruption was caused by a major fault on the newly constructed 12-kilometre, 11kV Medium Voltage (MV) line connecting the solar plant to the Lungi Power Station.

EDSA said its technical teams are currently conducting a detailed fault investigation and network integrity assessment to determine the root cause of the fault and establish the corrective measures required to safely restore electricity supply.

The Authority has expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to consumers in Lungi and surrounding communities, assuring the public that its technical teams are working diligently to resolve the matter as quickly and safely as possible.

EDSA said further updates will be issued as the investigation progresses and a restoration timeline is confirmed.

The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to the safe and reliable integration of renewable energy into Sierra Leone’s electricity network, as well as its efforts to improve the quality and reliability of electricity supply nationwide.
