The Director of External Relations at the electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL), Albert Massaquoi has said that the 2023 elections results could be announced six days after polling day.

The ECSL Director made this statement during the Pentecostal Fellowship for Sierra Leone Launch of elections Volunteer Observers and Peace Advocators Mission at Sapphire Court, Off Kingharmann Road in Freetown.

“According to our laws, the earliest for certified elections result is six days,” Massaquoi said.

He added that the time might elapsed due to normal glitches that occur in elections like recounting.

He assured locals of the Commission’s commitment to ensure the election go on as planned on Saturday.

“This Saturday the 24th the election is going to go on,” Massaquoi said.

He furthered by asking electorates to be prepared to vote on Saturday.

The ECSL Director also revealed that election materials have already been moved to districts escorted by security and election observers.

“All of the materials are being escorted by military trucks, security, observers and political parties’ agents.

“We are at 99 percent (of our target),” he said.

He said manual counting will be done in all 11,832 polling stations across the country refuting allegations of fraud with regards the use of technology. Massaquoi affirmed that results will first be compiled at polling station before moving to district and regional tally centres.
