The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has taken a significant step towards boosting transparency in Sierra Leone’s National Determined Contribution (NDC) implementation plan. They’ve developed and adopted an online portal to track progress across all sectors.

This initiative comes after Sierra Leone’s updated NDC submission to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) in 2021. The NDC serves as a roadmap for the government and international partners to address the country’s climate challenges.

To ensure effective use of the platform, the EPA held a training session for data providers and validators at the Galliness Hotel in Bo district. Participants from various sectors gained valuable skills on navigating and utilizing the online tool.

The development of this online platform was made possible with support from the Capacity-Building Initiative for Transparency (CBIT) project. This project, funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and implemented by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), empowers countries to track progress on their NDC goals.

The online portal will track progress across various areas, including adaptation efforts, mitigation strategies, and addressing climate-related losses and damages. It will also monitor the different types of support received by Sierra Leone for its climate action initiatives.
