First Lady Dr Fatima Maada Bio has joined members of Sierra Leone’s Judiciary at a special church service marking the commencement of the 2026/2027 Judicial Year.k
The First Lady attended the service at Saint George’s Cathedral Church in Freetown on Sunday, 13 September 2026, following an invitation from the Chief Justice of Sierra Leone, Hon. Justice Komba Kamanda.
The annual service brought together the Chief Justice, Justices, Judges, Magistrates, judicial and support staff, their families and well-wishers to seek God’s guidance, wisdom and strength as the Judiciary begins a new judicial year.
Dr Fatima Maada Bio’s presence highlighted recognition of the vital role of the Judiciary in upholding the rule of law, ensuring access to justice, promoting constitutionalism and protecting citizens’ rights.
Her attendance also reflected the importance of collaboration and mutual respect among Sierra Leone’s institutions and leadership, while serving as an expression of solidarity with the Judiciary as it renews its commitment to delivering justice fairly, independently and efficiently.
The First Lady’s participation added significance to the commencement of the new judicial year and underscored the shared national responsibility to strengthen the justice system, uphold the rule of law and promote peace and social stability.
The service provided an opportunity for spiritual reflection and thanksgiving, while also looking ahead to a renewed commitment to the administration of justice and service to the people of Sierra Leone.
