As the fight to combat human trafficking and other sexual related crimes in the country continues, Sierra Leone’s first lady Fatima bio has pledge strong commitment to the fight and ensuring that, perpetrators are brought to book.
In her statement, the first lady noted that human trafficking is a crime and together a stop can be put to it in the country.
“Human trafficking is a sinister crime, the majority of our victims are women and children who suffered brutal violence, forced labour, horrific sexual exploitation and other abuses in the hands of traffickers,” she maintained.
She furthered that as part of her campaign “Hands off our girls” she has joined the fight with other partners to have the situation put under control in the country.
She emphasized that, a child who is engaged in commercial sex is a victim of human trafficking under the anti-human trafficking and migrant smuggling act of 2022.
“So now it is time to protect our children from sexual predators, also those who lie to our young women and men, promising them paradise abroad,” she stated, adding that those found guilty would be prosecuted and punished under the law.
She called on all Sierra Leoneans to be law abiding and support each other in the fight to making Sierra Leone a better place for all and sundry.
