Fourah Bay College (FBC)has emerged as the winner of the Suad Baydoun National Debate Competition 2026 after defeating four other universities in the grand finale of the competition.

The debate competition, organised as part of the Suad Baydoun National Debate and Essay Writing Competitions, brought together 10 universities from across the country to showcase their debating skills, critical thinking, confidence, creativity and academic excellence.

Following an intense opening-day contest, four institutions advanced to the grand finale. They were Fourah Bay College (FBC), the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM), Milton Margai University, and the University of Makeni (UNIMAK).

FBC went on to win the Suad Baydoun Debate Competition and received the Best Debate Award, alongside a cash prize of Le50,000 for the outstanding achievement.

Meanwhile, Melrose Bull of Annie Walsh Secondary School emerged as the winner of the Suad Baydoun National Essay Writing Competition 2026. She received a cash prize of Le20,000 for her achievement.

The dual competitions, comprising the Suad Baydoun National Debate Competition 2026 and the Suad Baydoun National Essay Writing Competition 2026, offer cash prizes to winners while providing young people across Sierra Leone with a platform to develop their intellectual, leadership and creative abilities.

The initiative was launched by media personality, youth advocate and Housemates Salone Season 4 winner, Suad Baydoun, through Baydoun Company Limited, in partnership with Rodlin Entertainment Group.

The competition is aimed at nurturing intellect, leadership and creative expression among Sierra Leone’s youth, while encouraging students at both secondary and tertiary levels to develop confidence and excellence in academic pursuits.
