Ferry Service Between Freetown and Lungi Returns to Normal Schedule After Months of Disruption
The Management of MV Ferries in the Kissy Dockyard have announced the full restoration of ferry services between Freetown and the Lungi terminal, ending nearly two months of severe disruptions that left commuters facing long delays and overcrowding.
In a public notice issued this week, ferry management confirmed that both vessels are now operational after the MV Murzuk underwent maintenance and repairs. For the past one to two months, only one ferry had been running due to a temporary mechanical issue.
“This situation caused long delays, overcrowding, and hardship for commuters traveling between the two terminals,” the notice read. “We are pleased to announce that the ferry has been fully maintained/restored. Both ferries are now running as before, and the service has returned to its regular timetable.”
The restored service operates between Tagrin Terminal and Kissy Terminal on a fixed daily schedule:

- 11:30 AM
- 2:30 PM
- 5:30 PM
- 8:30 PM
Passengers can now expect reduced waiting times, less crowding, and more reliable departures. The public has been encouraged to resume normal travel plans while continuing to follow safety guidelines and arrive on time for scheduled departures.
The disruption had become a major hardship for travelers relying on the ferry link, which is a critical connection between Freetown and the Lungi area, home to the country’s international airport.
