The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has formed an internal committee to investigate allegations involving the unauthorised use of government documents in a visa application.
In a September 5, 2026, press release, the Ministry said it had received a formal complaint alleging that its official documentation was misused in dealings with a diplomatic mission. The Ministry also acknowledged public concerns surrounding the issue.
According to MFAIC, the committee was established by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to urgently establish the facts and determine how the documents were handled.
The investigation will examine relevant documentation and procedures, while also reviewing the processes used to prepare, authorise and transmit official correspondence, particularly correspondence connected to visa requests.
The Ministry said the review is intended not only to establish what happened but also to identify potential weaknesses in existing safeguards and strengthen controls against the misuse of government documents.
MFAIC further stated that anyone found to have used official documents without authorisation or breached established procedures could face administrative or legal consequences.
“The Ministry assures the public that any unauthorised use or breach of procedures, if confirmed, will be dealt with through appropriate administrative or legal action,” the statement said.
The Ministry emphasised that the inquiry would be conducted promptly and in accordance with due process, cautioning against drawing conclusions before the investigation is completed.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to integrity, accountability and institutional responsibility in the handling and transmission of official correspondence.
The Ministry has not publicly identified the individual or individuals connected to the allegations, nor has it named the diplomatic mission where the visa application was reportedly submitted.
MFAIC said it would provide further information to the public as appropriate as the investigation progresses.
