The Government of Sierra Leone has announced that in observing International Labour Day on 1st May 2023 there will be a public holiday across the country.

“The general public is hereby informed that International Labour Day will be observed on Monday, 1st May 2023. Accordingly, Monday, 1st May 2023, has been declared a public holiday throughout the country,” the government stated in a public noticed issued today, Friday 28 April 2023.

International Labour Day, also known as May Day or Workers’ Day, is a global celebration of the social and economic achievements of workers. It is a day that recognizes the contributions of workers to the growth and development of nations, as well as the struggles and challenges they face in their daily lives.
