Government Probes Alleged Military Assault on Waka Fine Bus Driver in Freetown
Alusine Ahmed Kargbo The Government of Sierra Leone has launched an investigation into an alleged assault involving two military officers and a Waka Fine driver following the circulation of a video of the incident on social media.
In a press release dated September 26, 2026, the Sierra Leone Public Transport Authority (SLPTA) confirmed that the Special Investigation Branch/Military Police Regiment of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces, in collaboration with the Sierra Leone Police, is investigating the incident.
The authority said the matter is being treated with the seriousness it deserves and assured the public that updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
SLPTA also called on anyone with relevant information about the incident to come forward and assist the investigating authorities.
Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the authority said the safety and well-being of transport drivers and the general public remain a top priority.
The investigation is expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the appropriate course of action.
