The Government of Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Information and Civic Education has issued a statement regarding a recent operation by security forces to neutralize an alleged coup plot.
On the afternoon of November 26, 2024, the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), acting on credible intelligence, intercepted two fugitive officers believed to be involved in last year’s failed coup attempt.
The fugitives, Captain Aiah Aba Senesie and Captain T.L. Konteh, were located at a hideout in the Western Area Rural District, where they were reportedly planning further destabilizing actions. Security forces, including special units, swiftly moved to apprehend the individuals.
According to the government, the fugitives resisted arrest and opened fire on the security forces. During the ensuing exchange, both individuals sustained fatal injuries. The operation effectively disrupted what authorities described as another threat to Sierra Leone’s peace and stability.
The government reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation and maintaining order. Efforts to track and apprehend other fugitives linked to previous and potential coup plots are ongoing. Citizens were encouraged to continue cooperating with law enforcement and to report any suspicious activities.
In its statement, the government expressed gratitude to the public for their vigilance and support. Officials emphasized the importance of unity and vigilance in preventing any actions that could destabilize the country’s democratic progress.
Further details about the incident and the broader implications of the operation are expected to be shared by authorities in the coming days.
