The Member of Parliament for Makpele and Sorogbema Chiefdoms, Hon. Hawa Akpajie Kallon, has intensified agricultural support in her constituency through her “Operation Feed Your Community” initiative, aimed at promoting food security and improving livelihoods.
The initiative complements President Julius Maada Bio’s Feed Salone programme by supporting farmers through the provision of financial assistance, improved seedlings, land preparation support, and access to mechanized farming equipment.

Hon. Kallon said food security remains one of her top priorities, noting that meaningful development cannot be achieved when people struggle to feed themselves. She explained that she has provided tractors and other farming machinery, while also hiring equipment to help farmers complete land preparation on time due to Sierra Leone’s seasonal farming conditions.
Beyond crop production, the MP said the initiative also supports livestock and fisheries development through the distribution of cows, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, pigs, and assistance for fish farming. Vegetable farmers cultivating crops such as cabbage, lettuce, onions, peppers, and cassava have also benefited from the programme.
The lawmaker commended her constituents for embracing agriculture and pledged to continue supporting efforts that ensure food remains available in households.

Meanwhile, SLPP Constituency Secretary General for Makpele and Sorogbema Chiefdoms, Mohamed Abdulai Tunis, praised Hon. Kallon’s interventions, describing her as a leader committed to improving the lives of her people.
Tunis recalled that the constituency established a large communal farm last year under Hon. Kallon’s guidance, with the harvest helping many families and encouraging communities to increase food production.
Residents say the initiative has strengthened participation in agriculture and is contributing to food self-sufficiency, improved nutrition, and stronger rural livelihoods in Makpele and Sorogbema Chiefdoms.
