The Minister of Health and Sanitation, Dr. Austin Demby has said the government is making way to award three thousand pin codes to health workers in the next two to three years.

He made this disclosure in Freetown and the provinces during his new year sensitisation drive saying that 2022, being the year of delivery, hospitals and Primary Health Units will be audited seriously for the smooth running of the system. He noted that active evaluation will be carried out on every hospital looking at the infrastructure that they should be physically appealing with constant electricity and water supplies.

According to him, government has awarded four thousand pin codes in the Health sector over the years adding that more needs to be done in that direction as a way of boosting the country’s poor health system.

He said the ministry will be traveling to Dubai to search for investors for the construction of five modernized hospitals in the Provinces. He expressed that there is need for effective monitoring of these hospitals.

“The patients are the boss not the doctors or nurses” Dr. Demby blasted

Adding that the Health workers should be seen working for their patients and not for their personal gains. He said the ministry is working tirelessly to ensure there are high standard drugs available for both the free healthcare and numbers of the public.

Meanwhile, Sierra Leone can only boast of 1500 PHUs and less than 30 hospitals countrywide and the government targets to train 5000 Doctors to match up the seven or eight million population.
