Inspector General of Police William Fayia Sellu has called on police recruits to maintain high standards of discipline and professionalism as they prepare to serve and protect the people of Sierra Leone.

Sellu made the appeal on Friday, October 30, 2026, while addressing recruits at the Sierra Leone Peacekeeping and Law Enforcement Academy (SILEA), Campus I, in Hastings. He stressed that respect for authority and responsible conduct are important qualities for officers carrying out law enforcement duties.

The police chief also praised the recruits for their performance during a rehearsal parade, commending their commitment, coordination and readiness.

He encouraged the academy’s leadership and training staff to continue preparing recruits for the demands of policing and the responsibilities that come with serving the public.

Sellu also recognised the work of the commandant, instructors and support personnel at SILEA Campus I in Hastings and Campus II in Samu. He acknowledged their contributions to training police personnel and supporting the objectives of the Police Training Department.

The engagement highlighted the importance of effective police training in preparing recruits to carry out their duties with discipline, professionalism and accountability.

The recruits are being trained at a time when the conduct and performance of law enforcement officers remain central to public safety and the relationship between the police and the communities they serve.
