Inspector General of Police (IGP) William Fayia Sellu has paid a visit to Kailahun District to engage community leaders and police personnel following the recent incident in which the Kailahun Police Barracks was set on fire on August 1, 2026.
During his visit to Kailahun, IG Sellu first visited the site of the destroyed police barracks to assess the extent of the damage. He later met with police officers serving in the district, where he encouraged them to remain professional, committed, and resilient despite the challenges they have faced. He also assured them of the continued support of the police leadership.
The Inspector General then held a meeting with community leaders and residents, emphasising the importance of maintaining peace, strengthening cooperation between the police and the public, and preventing future incidents that could threaten security in the district. He called on everyone to work together in the interest of peace, unity, and public safety.
Also present at the engagement was the Assistant Inspector General of Police for the Eastern Region, AIG J.K. Bongay. Delivering a few statements urge community members to continue supporting the police and stressed that lasting peace and stability can only be achieved through collaboration between law enforcement and the public.
Finally, community representatives welcomed the visit and commended the Inspector General and the Sierra Leone Police for reaching out to the people of Kailahun during a difficult period. They expressed their commitment to working closely with the police to promote peace, security, and development across the district.
