The Audit Committee of the Sierra Leone Immigration Services (SLIS) has conducted an inspection of key operational equipment at Freetown International Airport (FIA) in Lungi as part of efforts to assess service efficiency and ensure compliance with international aviation standards.

The inspection focused on equipment supplied by Securiport, including enrollment cameras, scanners, monitors, and electronic gate booths used in the processing of inbound and outbound passengers at the country’s main international gateway.

According to the Sierra Leone Immigration Services, the visit was aimed at evaluating the functionality and operational viability of the equipment to ensure the continued delivery of efficient customer service and the maintenance of international aviation standards.

During the exercise, members of the Audit Committee observed the equipment in real-time operation and assessed its performance within the airport’s immigration processing system. The committee reported that all equipment inspected was functioning effectively and remained in good working condition.

The assessment forms part of ongoing efforts by the Immigration Services to strengthen border management systems, improve operational efficiency, and enhance the overall travel experience for passengers using the airport.

While expressing satisfaction with the performance of the equipment, the committee advised the FIA immigration team to create additional space for visa sticker machines. The recommendation, according to the committee, would help improve the turnaround time for passengers and facilitate faster processing of travel documentation.

Officials noted that continuous monitoring and periodic assessments of operational equipment remain essential to maintaining high standards of service delivery and ensuring the smooth movement of travelers through the airport.

The Sierra Leone Immigration Services reaffirmed its commitment to providing efficient, professional, and customer-focused services, assuring all inbound and outbound passengers of its full cooperation and support at all times.
