Internal Affairs Minister Urges NDLEA Personnel to Uphold Professionalism
Minister of Internal Affairs, AIG (Rtd) Rt. Morie Lengor, Esq., has called on National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) personnel to uphold professionalism, integrity and accountability in the fight against illicit drugs.
Lengor made the call while delivering the keynote address at the NDLEA Management and Staff Retreat held at Galliness Paradise Hotel in Bo City. The two-day retreat was held under the theme, “Leading the Fight Against Illicit Drugs with Professionalism and Integrity.”
Addressing NDLEA management and field officers, the Minister said tackling illicit drug networks requires more than traditional law enforcement. He urged the agency to strengthen intelligence-led operations, improve prosecution, expand drug prevention and community rehabilitation efforts, and strengthen collaboration among government institutions, security agencies, local communities and international partners.

“Professionalism must be reflected in respect for the law, proper handling of evidence, protection of confidential information, responsible use of public resources, and decisions based on verified intelligence,” Lengor stated.
He warned against corruption, conflicts of interest, abuse of power and unauthorised disclosure of operational intelligence, saying such practices can undermine public confidence and weaken law enforcement efforts.
Lengor reaffirmed the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ commitment to providing supervisory guidance and policy support, while urging NDLEA leadership to turn the retreat’s resolutions into concrete and measurable action plans with clear responsibilities and deadlines.
He also reminded personnel that public trust is fragile, stressing that the NDLEA would be judged not only by drug seizures and arrests, but also by the fairness, restraint, competence and integrity demonstrated when exercising their authority.
