The National Market Women Organization (NMWO) has moved to dispel rumors circulating on social media urging traders to stay home on June 19th, 2024.

NMWO President Madam Gina Alei addressed the rumors directly, stating that she had received messages claiming traders were calling for a fight. Madam Alei emphasized that traders have not called for any such action and will instead engage the government through established channels if they have concerns.

“Our businesses are our lifelines,” Madam Alei said. “For 85% of us, these markets are how we put food on the table for our families. Staying home for three days without reason would only hurt us financially.”

The NMWO President concluded by asserting that there are currently no pressing issues preventing traders from conducting business. She urged all market vendors to operate as usual on June 18th, 19th, 20th, and beyond.
