Sierra Leone’s Ambassador Designate to the Republic of Burundi, Her Excellency Isatu Aminata Bundu was majestically welcomed to State House in Bujumbura by a guard of honour on the occasion of presenting her Letters of Credence to His Excellency Evariste Ndayishimiye, President of the Republic of Burundi. She was accompanied by the Head of Chancery at the resident Mission in Kenya, Mrs. Juliana S.H. Fallah.

In her presentation, Ambassador Bundu conveyed HE President Julius Maada Bio’s fraternal greetings to HE President Evariste Ndayishimiye expressing the immense privilege of serving as Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to his country. “Your Excellency, please allow me to extend to you, the Government and the People of the Republic of Burundi, fraternal greetings from His Excellency the President, Julius Maada Bio, the Government and the People of the Republic of Sierra Leone. I am greatly honoured Your Excellency, to be my country’s envoy to your great country. It is my earnest hope that I shall succeed in my endeavours to strengthen the relations between our two countries“ she said.

Demonstrating the shared commitments and aspirations of the two countries, Madam Bundu commended the collaboration between both countries on multifaceted global and continental issues, not least their shared membership of the African Union, United Nations and G7plus.

Furthermore, Her Excellency Isatu Aminata Bundu emphasised President Bio’s commitment and zeal to closely work with President Ndayishimiye in advocating the African Common Position on the reform of the United Nations Security Council as contained in the Ezulwini Consensus and Sirte Declaration, the ratification of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.

President Ndayishimiye commended President Bio for excellently chairing the African Union Committee of Ten Heads of State and Government (C-10).

The ceremony concluded with the presentation of the Letters of Credence denoting the appointment of Madam Bundu by His Excellency the President, Julius Maada Bio as the Ambassador of the Republic of Sierra Leone to the Republic of Burundi, with residence in Kenya.
