The inaugural Projects for Peace Alumni Award Prestigiousnferred upon Joseph Kaifala, a passionate human rights and education activist from Sierra Leone. 

This newly created award is designed to provide support for the ongoing peace-building endeavors of a previous recipient of the Award for Peace who demonstrated innovation and tenacity in transforming conflict.

The Kathryn Wasserman Davis Collaborative in Conflict Transformation at Middlebury unveiled the Peace Award.

Recipients of the newly established award can receive up to $50,000 to advance their work toward promoting peace and conflict resolution.

Joseph Kaifala, a member of the first cohort of Projects for Peace grant recipients, received this honor for his 2007 project, “Education as a Project for Peace in Sierra Leone: Constructing a Library in Conakry-Dee.”
