Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella, Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on Climate Change, Renewable Energy and Food Security, will oversee the official handover ceremony for the construction of a 1 megawatt (MW) solar power plant at Njala University’s Monkonde Campus.
The project aims to provide reliable, clean energy to the university and surrounding community.
The event will take place on Thursday, May 29, 2025, starting at 10:00 AM at Njala University’s Monkonde Campus.

In addition to the handover, Dr. Yumkella will launch a national lecture series for Sierra Leone’s higher education institutions. The lecture series is themed “Energy Transition and Human Capital Development,” focusing on the role of energy in the country’s growth and education.
The solar plant installation marks a step towards improving sustainable energy access for Njala University and its nearby population.
